THE LAKELAND FURNITURE INTERIOR DESIGN GUIDE

We often think of ‘interior design’ as this big, scary world that is only for magazines and celebrities. Creating a perfect interior often rings bells of spending lots of money and time. However, this is really not the case! We love to give you tips on buying and placing furniture here at Lakeland Furniture. Well now, it’s time we give you some interior design inspiration! We’ve rounded up some our ultimate favourite interior trends, that don’t have to cost the world.

FEATURE WALLS

Feature walls are often seen in home magazines and on design blogs. It’s easy to forget how much of a difference a wall can make, so let’s not neglect this! Perhaps you want to refresh a room but don’t really want to spend time gutting out the whole place. Simply changing up just one of your walls can make it feel like a whole new space! Here are three of our favourite types of feature wall that you could add to your home:

BRICK WALL

Of course, it’d be the dream to have a real brick wall in your living area like this one depicted below, but that’d require your home to already come with one, or a lot of time and work! You can buy brick-style wallpaper from plenty of outlets that looks super real and effective. Try this one from I Love Wallpaper.

WOODEN FEATURE

Wood on the walls gives the home a real wintery, Nordic feel – almost like you’re staying in a cosy cabin! We love the example below, but check out Design Rulz for lots more ideas to incorporate wood on your walls.

FUNKY WALLPAPER

Palm leafs are a massive trend at the moment and don’t have to just be for summer. Give your home that tropical feel all year round with a vibrant, leafy feature wall. We love this design from B&Q. Speaking of leaves… let’s talk plants next!

INDOOR PLANTS

They have become an absolutely massive trend this year and houseplants are not going away anytime soon. There are many ways you can turn your home into a green haven. Check out some of our favourites below.

POTTED PLANTS ON SURFACES

You can jazz up your desk, dressing table or cabinet by featuring a potted plant or two. Team your leafy friends up with candles, wire memo boards and decorative letters like this fabulous example:

ADD CHARM TO YOUR WINDOWSILL

The days of minimalism may be over. Decorating your windowsill with a bundle of succulents and cacti can add a cosy depth to any room that is otherwise plain and boring.

FLOOR PLANTS

If you’ve got the space, your living room or other chosen area may really benefit from a floor plant. Palm and fern-style plants tend to make the best features for the floor. Remember, you don’t have to tuck your plant away in the corner. Experiment with placing to make your room look really quirky.

ADDING DIY TOUCHES

There are plenty of DIY tips and tricks that will transform your home into a cosy, stylish sanctuary. If you’re handy with a sewing kit, you can sew quirky trims around the edge of old cushions. This will quickly and easily freshen up your living room style! Add old planks of wood to surfaces such as a coffee table to create an extra layer and give the room a cosier feel. Install floating shelves to spaces where the walls are bare. You can then decorate these with photo frames and little trinkets to make the room more personal.
